YUFENG Carrying Idler Roller, also known as trough carrier roller or conveyor carrying idler, is the primary supporting component installed on the upper material-carrying section of a belt conveyor. It supports the loaded conveyor belt, maintains the designed trough profile, reduces belt sag, and helps keep bulk materials centered during continuous transportation.
The carrying idler is assembled from a steel or HDPE roller shell, solid shaft, precision deep-groove bearing and multi-layer sealing system. YUFENG provides carbon steel, galvanized, HDPE, PU lagging, self-aligning and spiral carrying idlers for mining, cement, ports, thermal power, chemical and other bulk conveying applications.
Available roller diameters include 76, 89, 108, 114, 133, 168, 194 and 219 mm, with roller length, wall thickness, bearing configuration and surface treatment customizable according to conveyor drawings and working conditions.
Carbon steel carrying idlers provide high load capacity, structural strength and impact resistance for conventional heavy-duty conveyor systems. They are suitable for mining, cement plants, thermal power plants, aggregates and other bulk material transportation applications.
HDPE carrying idlers use a high-density polyethylene shell that does not rust like conventional steel rollers. They provide resistance to moisture, salt spray and selected acid or alkali media, making them suitable for coastal ports, chemical plants and humid open-pit mining environments.
PU lagging carrying idlers use an elastic polyurethane outer layer to absorb part of the material impact at high-drop loading areas. They are particularly suitable for crusher feeding sections where large or sharp materials can create concentrated impact on the conveyor belt.
| Roller Type | Core Characteristic | Applicable Working Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon Steel Carrying Idler | High load capacity, strong impact resistance and stable cost | Mining, cement plants, thermal power and heavy bulk transportation |
| HDPE Carrying Idler | Rust-free, acid and alkali resistant, low running noise | Coastal ports, chemical plants and humid salt-fog environments |
| PU Lagging Carrying Idler | Elastic outer layer for impact absorption and belt protection | Crusher feeding and high-impact blanking sections |
The three-roller trough arrangement is the most widely used carrying idler configuration for the upper loaded section of a belt conveyor. Available trough angles include 30°, 35° and 45°, allowing the belt to form a deeper carrying trough and increasing its effective material-holding capacity.
PU buffer rings are wrapped around the roller body to reduce the impact generated when large lump materials fall onto the conveyor. The roller is normally installed around crusher feeding and other high-drop loading points to reduce damage to the conveyor belt.
The self-aligning carrying idler is equipped with vertical guide rollers that help correct belt deviation during operation. It is used on long-distance conveyor lines where belt tracking is important for reducing edge wear, material leakage and unstable conveying.
The roller shell receives hot-dip galvanized surface treatment to improve resistance to moisture and atmospheric corrosion. This configuration is suitable for outdoor stockyards, open-air material storage and conveying systems exposed to humid conditions.
The HDPE shell provides a non-metallic surface that avoids conventional steel rust and offers resistance to selected corrosive environments. It is suitable for coastal wharves, chemical plants and other locations where salt spray or chemical exposure may shorten the service life of ordinary steel rollers.
The spiral surface uses a helical convex structure to help remove sticky clay, wet sand and other material adhering to the conveyor belt. This design helps reduce material accumulation around the roller and can lower the risk of roller blockage in wet conveying conditions.
YUFENG provides standard outer diameters of 76, 89, 108, 114, 133, 168, 194 and 219 mm. The appropriate diameter should be selected according to belt width, belt speed, load and conveyor structure.
The carrying idler range can be matched with conveyor belt widths of approximately 500–2400 mm. Roller length and shaft dimensions can be customized according to the conveyor frame and supporting bracket.
YUFENG Carrying Idler Roller products are designed for compatibility with common DTII, TD75 and CEMA-type conveyor frame arrangements. Exact dimensions should be confirmed against the customer's existing frame drawing before bulk production.
The rollers can be matched with Fabric Conveyor Belt, Steel Cord Conveyor Belt, Sidewall Conveyor Belt and Pipe Conveyor Belt systems according to their structural requirements and belt width.
Available shell materials include Q235 carbon steel, HDPE and 304 stainless steel. Carbon steel is intended for general heavy-duty applications, HDPE for corrosion-sensitive environments, and stainless steel for applications requiring increased corrosion resistance.
Surface options include electrostatic powder coating, hot-dip galvanizing and full PU lagging. The appropriate treatment should be selected according to humidity, corrosion, impact and material characteristics.
YUFENG can supply domestic high-precision bearings or imported SKF and FAG C3-clearance bearings according to the operating requirements and project specification.
Double or triple composite sealing structures can be configured using multi-channel nylon labyrinth seals and rubber contact seals to limit the entry of dust and water into the bearing cavity.
Special configurations such as flame-retardant and anti-static carrying rollers for underground mining or low-temperature-resistant rollers for northern open-pit mines can be discussed according to the application.
Matching carrying idler brackets and conveyor support frames can be supplied according to roller dimensions and conveyor frame design.
Standard steel rollers use Q235 high-frequency ERW steel pipe, while HDPE versions use virgin HDPE material. Shell dimensions and wall thickness can be adjusted according to the required load and roller length.
The roller shaft uses 45# cold-drawn solid round steel, providing bending resistance under continuous radial and axial loading. Shaft diameter and end configuration can be matched to the supporting bracket.
C3-clearance deep-groove ball bearings are used for the rotating assembly. Bearing selection affects running resistance, temperature rise, service life and suitability for continuous conveyor operation.
The sealing system uses high-toughness nylon labyrinth components together with weather-resistant nitrile rubber sealing rings. The multi-stage structure helps reduce contamination of the bearing cavity by dust and water.
Steel tubes, shafts and bearings are sampled and inspected for relevant dimensional and performance requirements before assembly. Materials that fail the factory inspection criteria are not released for production.
Carrying idlers operate continuously while the conveyor is running, so rotation resistance, concentricity, bearing protection and static load capacity are important indicators for roller selection. YUFENG controls machining and assembly accuracy to maintain stable running performance.
| Performance Item | Standard Requirement | Test Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Rotation Resistance Coefficient | ≤0.008 | ISO 15365 |
| Dust & Water Protection Grade | IP65 | IP Test Standard |
| Rated Load Service Life | ≥30,000 working hours | Factory Accelerated Aging Test |
| Roller Shell Concentricity | ≤0.5 mm | Dial Indicator Test |
| Bearing Anti-Aging Duration | ≥500 h high-temperature aging test | Internal Lab Test |
| Axial Static Bearing Capacity | 1.5 times rated load without deformation | Static Pressure Test |
Actual service life and load performance depend on roller diameter, shell thickness, bearing configuration, belt speed, material load, operating environment and maintenance conditions.
YUFENG rollers are manufactured with reference to CEMA, GB/T 10595 and ISO 15365 requirements for conveyor equipment and roller performance.
Applicable underground mine roller configurations can be supplied according to relevant coal mine safety requirements. Export orders can be supported with applicable CE and SGS inspection documentation according to the selected product and destination market.
Available documentation can include ISO9001 quality management certification, CE export documentation, SGS raw material inspection reports, coal mine safety test documentation, and factory rotation resistance and service-life test reports.
The carrying idler support bracket is first fixed to the conveyor frame according to the designed spacing. Both ends of the roller shaft are aligned with the bracket mounting holes and secured with the specified pins or bolts, followed by a manual rotation check to confirm smooth running.
The conveyor should be stopped and isolated from the power supply before maintenance. After removing the shaft locking components, the damaged carrying idler can be removed and replaced with a new roller. Rotation and belt alignment should be checked before the conveyor is restarted.
On long-distance conveying lines, self-aligning carrying idlers can be installed at suitable intervals, with approximately 80–100 m suggested according to the supplied configuration and operating conditions.
For crusher feeding points, approximately three to five groups of PU lagging impact carrying idlers can be arranged within approximately 5 m of the blanking point to distribute material impact and protect the conveyor belt.
YUFENG can supply Fabric Conveyor Belt, Steel Cord Conveyor Belt, Sidewall Conveyor Belt, Pipe Conveyor Belt, Patterned Conveyor Belt and Rough Top Conveyor Belt for different bulk conveying applications.
Supporting products include trough, impact, self-aligning and return idler brackets, support stands and other roller mounting components.
Wear-resistant rubber sheets, conveyor skirting rubber, vulcanization repair adhesives and patch kits are available for conveyor installation and maintenance.
