YUFENG Return Idler Roller, also known as return roller or back conveyor idler, is installed on the lower return section of a belt conveyor to support the empty conveyor belt as it travels back to the drive or tail section. Its main functions are to maintain belt shape, reduce sagging, support smooth return movement, and help maintain stable belt tracking.
YUFENG supplies flat parallel, V-type centering, spiral self-cleaning, HDPE anti-corrosion, galvanized and rubber disc return idlers for mining, cement, ports, chemical plants, power plants and other bulk material conveying applications. Different shell materials, surface treatments, sealing structures and bearing configurations can be selected according to belt width, material properties and working environment.
Standard outer diameters include 76, 89, 108, 114, 133, 168, 194 and 219 mm, with roller length and wall thickness available according to conveyor frame drawings. The rollers are designed for compatibility with common DTII, TD75 and CEMA conveyor structures.
The flat parallel return idler uses a single straight cylindrical roller to support the unloaded belt. Its simple structure is suitable for conventional conveying lines carrying dry and relatively non-sticky materials where basic return belt support is required.
The V-type return idler uses two rollers arranged in a V configuration to provide additional belt-centering guidance. It is suitable for long-distance conveying lines where belt deviation may occur during continuous return operation.
The spiral return idler uses a helical surface profile to help remove clay, wet sand and other sticky materials from the back of the conveyor belt. It is suitable for wet mines, clay quarries and conveying systems handling materials with high carryback adhesion.
The HDPE return idler uses a non-metallic shell with resistance to rust, moisture and selected chemical media. Its lower operating noise and corrosion-resistant construction make it suitable for coastal ports, chemical plants and humid industrial environments.
| Roller Type | Core Characteristic | Applicable Working Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Flat Parallel Return Idler | Simple structure and basic belt support | Dry bulk materials and conventional return sections |
| V-Type Return Idler | Improved belt-centering capability | Long-distance conveying lines prone to belt deviation |
| Spiral Self-Cleaning Return Idler | Removes sticky material from belt surface | Wet mines, clay and sticky material conveying |
| HDPE Plastic Return Idler | Rust-free, corrosion resistant and low noise | Coastal, humid and chemical environments |
The flat parallel configuration is the standard return support solution for the lower empty belt section. It is suitable for coal, limestone, sand and other relatively dry bulk materials where the return belt has normal alignment requirements.
The V-type configuration provides additional lateral guidance as the belt moves along the return section. It can help limit left-right belt movement on long conveyor systems and reduce dependence on additional corrective components when the conveyor design permits.
The spiral structure is designed for return belts carrying sticky material residues. The helical profile helps remove accumulated clay, mud and wet sand from the belt surface to reduce material buildup around the roller.
Hot-dip galvanizing provides additional corrosion protection to the steel roller surface. This configuration is suitable for outdoor stockyards, open-air conveying lines and other humid environments where conventional untreated steel may corrode more quickly.
The HDPE shell eliminates conventional steel surface rust and provides resistance to moisture, salt spray and selected chemical media. It is suitable for seaside terminals, chemical workshops and other corrosive environments.
Rubber discs are arranged along the roller shaft to provide flexible contact with the return belt. The structure can absorb part of the belt vibration and reduce direct wear between the return belt and a rigid steel roller surface.
YUFENG provides standard outer diameters of 76, 89, 108, 114, 133, 168, 194 and 219 mm. Diameter selection should consider belt speed, belt width, return load, conveyor length and the design requirements of the conveyor frame.
The return idler range is designed for conveyor belt widths of approximately 500–2400 mm. Roller length and shaft dimensions can be customized according to the actual frame and bracket dimensions.
YUFENG Return Idler Roller products can be configured for DTII, TD75 and CEMA-type conveyor structures. Buyers should provide existing roller dimensions or frame drawings when replacing rollers in an existing conveyor system.
The rollers can be matched with Fabric Conveyor Belt, Steel Cord Conveyor Belt, Sidewall Conveyor Belt and Pipe Conveyor Belt systems according to belt width, return structure and conveyor layout.
Available shell materials include Q235 carbon steel, HDPE and 304 stainless steel. Carbon steel is suitable for general heavy-duty conveying, HDPE for corrosion-sensitive environments, and 304 stainless steel for applications requiring higher corrosion resistance.
Surface treatment options include electrostatic spray coating, hot-dip galvanizing and rubber disc wrapping. The selected treatment can be matched to outdoor humidity, corrosive media, impact and belt-contact requirements.
Double and triple composite nylon labyrinth sealing systems can be used to help limit the entry of dust and water into the bearing cavity. Rubber contact seals can provide an additional barrier around the bearing assembly.
Domestic high-precision bearings or imported SKF/FAG C3-clearance bearings can be selected according to operating requirements, continuous running conditions and customer specifications.
Special configurations such as flame-retardant and anti-static return rollers for underground coal mining or low-temperature-resistant rollers for cold-region open-pit mines can be considered according to the actual application.
YUFENG can supply return roller support brackets in different sizes so that the selected roller can be matched with the conveyor frame and installation structure.
Standard steel return rollers use Q235 high-frequency ERW steel pipe, while HDPE versions use virgin HDPE material. Shell wall thickness can be adjusted according to roller length, load and required structural strength.
45# cold-drawn solid round steel is used for the shaft in standard configurations, providing resistance to bending and deformation during continuous operation.
C3-clearance deep-groove ball bearings are used in the rotating assembly. Bearing selection affects rotation resistance, temperature rise and service life during continuous conveyor operation.
The sealing structure can include high-toughness nylon labyrinth rings and weather-resistant nitrile rubber sealing rings to reduce dust and water entering the bearing cavity.
Steel tubes, shafts and bearings are sampled and checked before entering the assembly process. Materials that do not meet the factory inspection requirements are rejected before production.
| Performance Item | Standard Requirement | Test Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Rotation Resistance Coefficient | ≤0.008 | ISO 15365 |
| Dust & Water Protection Grade | IP65 | IP Test Standard |
| Rated Load Service Life | ≥30,000 working hours | Factory Accelerated Aging Test |
| Roller Shell Concentricity | ≤0.5 mm | Dial Indicator Test |
| Bearing Anti-Aging Time | ≥500 h high-temperature aging test | Internal Lab Test |
| Axial Static Load Capacity | 1.5 times rated load without deformation | Static Pressure Test |
Actual roller performance depends on diameter, shell wall thickness, bearing type, sealing structure, conveyor speed, belt tension, environmental conditions and maintenance practices.
YUFENG Return Idler Roller products are manufactured with reference to CEMA, GB/T10595 and ISO15365 requirements for conveyor equipment and roller performance.
Return rollers intended for underground mining applications can be configured according to applicable coal mine safety requirements. The exact safety documentation depends on the selected product and intended application.
Available documentation can include ISO9001 quality management certification, CE export documentation, SGS raw material inspection reports, coal mine safety test documentation, and factory rotation resistance and service-life test reports according to the product and destination market.
The return roller support bracket is fixed to the conveyor frame according to the designed spacing. Both ends of the roller shaft are aligned with the bracket mounting holes and secured with the specified pins or bolts. The roller should rotate freely without abnormal resistance before the conveyor is commissioned.
The conveyor should be stopped and the power supply isolated before replacement. After removing the shaft locking components, the damaged return roller can be removed and replaced with a new unit. The new roller should be checked for flexible rotation before restarting the conveyor.
V-type return rollers can be arranged at suitable intervals on long-distance conveying lines where belt tracking requires additional support. The actual spacing should be determined according to conveyor structure, belt behavior and operating conditions.
Spiral self-cleaning return rollers should be used on conveyors carrying wet or sticky materials where belt carryback may accumulate on the return side. Installation should ensure that the spiral surface matches the belt running direction and conveyor structure.
Flat parallel return rollers are suitable for conventional conveyors transporting relatively dry materials such as coal, limestone, sand and aggregate.
V-type centering return rollers can be selected where long conveyor lines require improved belt tracking during the return stroke.
Spiral self-cleaning return rollers are suitable for wet mines, clay quarries and other applications where sticky material adheres to the back surface of the conveyor belt.
HDPE or galvanized return rollers can be selected for areas exposed to salt spray, humidity or selected corrosive media, depending on the operating conditions.
Rubber disc return rollers can be considered where additional flexibility between the roller and return belt is required to reduce vibration and contact wear.
YUFENG can supply Fabric Conveyor Belt, Steel Cord Conveyor Belt, Sidewall Conveyor Belt, Pipe Conveyor Belt, Patterned Conveyor Belt and Rough Top Conveyor Belt for complete bulk material conveying systems.
Supporting products include trough carrying idlers, impact idlers, self-aligning idlers and their corresponding brackets and support stands.
Wear-resistant rubber sheets, conveyor skirting rubber, vulcanization repair adhesives and patch kits can be supplied for conveyor installation, maintenance and field repair.
HDPE Water Pipe and HDPE Dredge Pipe can be supplied for auxiliary water and slurry transportation applications in mining and industrial projects.
Roller diameter, wall thickness, shaft dimensions, sealing structure and other parameters can be adjusted according to customer working drawings and conveyor requirements.
76, 89 and 108 mm return rollers can be bundled with steel wire, fitted with protective caps on both shaft ends and packed in solid wooden cases for international transportation.
168, 194 and 219 mm rollers can be arranged on wooden pallets, wrapped with protective plastic film and secured for container transportation to reduce surface scratching and corrosion.
HDPE rollers can be separated with foam or other cushioning materials to reduce surface collision and damage during loading, unloading and transportation.
Return rollers should be stored horizontally on pallets with a recommended stacking height of no more than 1.2 m. When stored outdoors, waterproof tarpaulin should be used and prolonged exposure to rainwater should be avoided.
Provide the conveyor belt width and existing frame dimensions so that the appropriate roller length, shaft configuration and bracket size can be confirmed.
Flat, V-type, spiral, HDPE and rubber disc return rollers should be selected according to belt tracking requirements, material adhesion, humidity and corrosion conditions.
Provide information about mine, port, chemical or other working environments, including humidity, salt spray, chemical exposure and temperature conditions. This helps determine the appropriate shell material and surface treatment.
When wet clay, mud or sticky material tends to remain on the return side of the belt, a spiral self-cleaning return roller can be considered to reduce material accumulation.
For long-distance conveyor lines with a tendency toward belt deviation, V-type centering return rollers can be evaluated as part of the return-side alignment arrangement.
For an accurate quotation, provide the matched conveyor belt width, roller outer diameter, return idler type such as flat, V-type, spiral or HDPE, working environment, material characteristics, total order quantity and target delivery port.
YUFENG technical engineers can evaluate the appropriate roller diameter, shell material, bearing configuration, sealing structure and supporting bracket according to the actual conveyor system.
